Almost everyone I know, even people with a scientific or engineering background, finds it hard to explain the issues around climate change in a way that can be simply grasped. This is not some simple "evil" that can be vilified and then declared war upon—remember the wars on cancer, drugs, poverty, xxx(name your favorite enemy)? Even the scientists whose job it is to understand both the technical details and the larger context often find it hard to translate their knowledge into a form that is intelligible to most people. Worse, many scientists shrug and say that they just gather the data: it's not their job to make policy recommendations.
Fortunately, there are a few clear-thinkers who can reduce the issues to a level that we can all comprehend. I was delighted to read a brief article in the Fort Collins Coloradoan by a couple of climate scientists (Scott Denning and Todd Ringler) who made a valiant attempt to simplify the topic in an article entitled "Adding heat changes temperature".
